Semla Dag!

Fat Tuesday Celebration!! Emilie, Mikaela, Hanna and I all met up for a Fika for the long awaited for Semla. In Sweden this is what they eat to bring in Lent, like many country's its something really sweet! It used to be that you couldn't have this amazing thing until Fat Tuesday, lucky for me that has changed and you can get them as early as New Years. Mikaela actually waited until Tuesday to eat a semla, more power to her, I couldn't resist! What is a Selma you might be wondering.. well it's sweet bread, with a sugar/marzipan layer and lots of whip cream. It is Divine! But surprisingly not to, to sweet, but just enough!

How to make real Svenska Pannkaka "Swedish Pancakes"...

Flour, Eggs, salt, Milk, Ligon,"butter", sugar and A bowl.
Mix the flour and milk together until it "feels right"!

Add the eggs 2 or maybe 3. Mean while your skillet should be getting
HOT, and now add the "butter" to the skillet, and pour in the batter.

Flip! when it's ready, and place on plate.

Add your lingon, Eat and enjoy!

A Swedish Winter

My goal is to try and learn the most I can about Swedish culture and of course the Swedish language while I am here. This is probably the best way for me to express what a Swedish Winter is to me, by showing you what a Swedish Winter looks like.
Even though the air is cold, Sweden for me is a warm place, a place that has filled this empty place in my soul. I feel at home here, I feel like this is where I belong. Things might be different then what I am used to at home, and things may not always go as planned, I may not understand everything that is going on all the time, and I get lost often, but it is worth every bit of it.

I took these one Sunday evening right behind my house. It really is great living so close
to the lake!

The anything but clothes party!

The only "rule" was you couldn't wear clothes...
hmmm very interesting indeed!

So I wore a trash bag!

And Matilda and Andreas wore Carpets!
Need I explain?

Snö, pudersnö,slasksnö, kramsnö och Skaresnö

You can usually see the lake

Snö, Snö, Snö everywhere!! Jönköping has gotten a lot of snow these last few days, and we're expecting more! woohoo The snow has been so random too, one day it will be the really large flakes that you can taste on your tong, then the next day it's a cross between hail and just snow, last week it snowed side ways. No matter how it snow's here it's beautiful though.

Asperö

This amazing island is only about 10 min away from Götenberg city by ferry. It has a mere 418 inhabitants and is one of the most quiet places I have ever been too. This place was heaven! The water was so blue, and there was still a little ice and snow randomly on some of the paths. I loved it, we hiked the Island and went down by the beach and even though the sun was shining it was a low of -10C because of the wind chill, but I didn't care. My plan is to go back and visit a few more of the 5 Islands when it gets a little warmer.

Göteberg

What a great city! I really enjoyed Göthenberg, it was filled with things to do, places to go, and lots to see, and don't forget plenty of Fika opportunities. We drove in on Saturday morning and it only took about 2 hours from Jönköping, so it wasn't bad at all. When we got there all we really did was walk around the city aimlessly, we totally looked like tourists with our cameras out at every available opportunity. The best way to get around if you need to get further then you can walk is by tram, or bike. Scandinavians largest mall is in Götenberg so we had to walk through it, I didn't take any pictures of the mall and I didn't buy anything, so yes mom I was good! :)
